Sunday 18 January 2009

According to the Malagasy Ministry of Education website, in the school year 2006/2007 there were 3 837 343 students in the public primary schools.

The average ratio students/teacher was 52, which means that for every teacher there were 52 students!

The average ratio students/classroom was 59 ! in average, every classroom has to accomodate 59 kids.

Besides, 59% of the teachers were "FRAM" teachers, which means that they are actually hired and paid by students’ parents because of the lack of teachers on government’s payroll. Most of these teachers (84%) do get a subsidy from the government to complement the small pay by the parents.
